The first humans already showed a deep need of connecting to life and they did that by assigning meaning to nature events. The process of acknowledging the power of nature as something bigger than us probably lead to the birth of the first cults and rituals, as man learned to cope with events like death, dreams and the passing of time itself. These rituals essentially celebrated the experience of being alive and made way for the development of deeper connection between man and life. Thus spirituality has been around long before any religion took the word just as early philosophy, as pure search for wisdom, has often many spiritual attributes, being the human intellect at the service of a greater idea of what a true human being is. Gods refer to power beyond human, they are nature itself in cultural shapes. Worshipping them is bowing to nature and realizing we are part of the whole.
